Dancing

"Alex? It's Harry!" Her voice echoed urgently down the phone.

Alex grinned. "I can tell. What's the news?"

"You know the Embassy Ball? The big annual one in City Hall."

"Yeah, posh charity affair, all frocks and serious networking. Boring as hell, I assume."

"You must be able to get tickets. You're famous enough. Can you get hold of a couple?"

"Are you asking me on a date?"

"It's for a story." Harry sounded affronted.

"Ah! So there's something that a layabout rock-star dilletante is useful for after all. Can't one of your upmarket ambitious city boyfriends get you a ticket?"

"Alex, please!"

He laughed. "OK, Moss. I'll get us tickets, just as long as I don't have to be inconspicuous when I'm there, and you have to promise not to abandon me to the clutches of dull society women for too long."

"As if I would."

"I know you when you're hot on the trail. You'll dump me to go and smooze a fat businessmen with a dodgy dossier. I can't have my date cold-shoulder me, my reputation would never survive."

"Your reputation will survive just fine." He could hear the laughter in her voice. "However I promise you at least one dance and I'll definitely rescue you if I see your eyes glaze over under an assault from a society heiress."

"I'm holding you to that Moss, otherwise this is will be the only date we'll ever have."

She laughed again. "Don't get your hopes up sunshine."
