NB. Predrag needs a personality!
"Long time, no see!" called Predrag as Harry breezed into the office the following day. Predrag was another full time journalist on the Illyrian, one of the about half a dozen. It might be the major paper for the island but that sadly didn't exactly make it a power-house of journalistic endeavour.
She flipped him a finger and slid down behind her desk. "I was working on a story yesterday, didn't need to come in."
"Paolo's been looking for you, something about a photo story."
"That's what I was working on, is he around?"
"Coming in later, said something about having a look around Central Quarter. Soak up the atmosphere, he said."
"That's the story."
Predrag shrugged. "There was also a phone call from someone called `Torrini', said to call him back. I left a note on your desk."
Harry frowned and picked up the note. "Did he say who he was?"
"Nope, ring any bells?"
She shook her head and lifted the phone.
While she waited for it to be picked up she paged through her email. She sighed inwardly when she saw that Maria, the editor, wanted her to do the Reuters feed for the day. That meant checking all the foreign news stories that came in and writing any important ones up as pieces for the morning edition. That would keep her busy all day without time for worrying about Crown Estate or photoshoots.
"Ciao, La Republica."
Harry blinked in surprise and shifted several mental gears into Italian to ask after Signore Torrini. The next few minutes were extremely interesting and more than a little confusing. When she put down the phone she could see Predrag frowning at her.
"That sounded remarkably like some kind of job offer," he commented.
"I think it was. They want me to go over to Italy and interview, something about a position on the paper."
"Congratulations!"
"Yeah," said Harry doubtfully, frowning at the telephone. "Why me though?"
"You do good work."
"Not good enough to get head-hunted by La Republica"
"Don't knock it, maybe some proprietor with clout holidays here and likes your stuff. It's only small scale becase Illyria is small scale. You don't have to be a big name to get noticed."
Harry shook her head. "Well, it can't hurt to go over there and see what they have to say."
