"Hello Mr. Porter"

Alex opened the door to find Marco standing on the landing.

"Hiya! Marco. How goes the protection racket?"

"Same as always." Marco grinned at him to show there were no hard feelings. "Besides, you always have the rent money."

Alex shook his head and pulled out his wallet. "I was just going out. You're lucky to have caught me."

"Really? You got a nice girl lined up?"

"I wish. She's a journalist. Trying to get her to take an interest in this place."

"Really?" Marco looked intent. "She gonna bite?"

"Not sure. She seems to want to do some kind of women's supplement lifestyle thing, I'm going to see if I can wine and dine her into something a bit harder hitting. Got any tips? It's your job gonna go if this place gets torn down."

"I'll be fine," Marco shrugged eloquently. "There's lots of landlords need rent collecting. Maybe you've got the wrong journalist."

Alex laughed. "Maybe, but she's the only one I've got some I'm going to have to make the most of her."

"What's her name? Which paper does she work for?"

"Harry Moss, I didn't ask about the paper. Hang on," Alex fished for Harry's card in his wallet and showed it to Marco. "Reporter, The Illyrian, dead posh. I've just got to get her properly interested. Good job I'm a rock star really."

Marco shook his head. "Good luck, but she's probably used to being chatted up by rock stars with an agenda."

"Seriously Marco, Illyria doesn't have that many rock stars with an agenda. How many is she likely to have met?"
